Looking for a Home

The policy of the Lluest Horse and Pony Trust is to rehabilitate and re-home Ponies whenever possible. Prospective foster homes must be within a reasonable distance of the Trust, as we have a responsibility to visit our ponies regularly to check on their well-being. If you are interested in having a pony on loan please indicate where you live when applying. We are also asking for a donation when a pony/horse goes on loan - we suggest £50 for a companion, scaling up to £100 for a riding Horse. This is to help toward the visits and paperwork required.
We hope that Ponies who are fostered into loving homes will be with their new carers for the rest of their days, but in the event of this becoming impractical, ponies must be returned to the Trust and NEVER passed on to another home without our knowledge and approval. The Ponies legally remain the property of Lluest Horse and Pony Trust throughout their lives, although we hope they will become such an important part of their "family" that we just get to be proud visitors to them.
Many of our Ponies are fostered to be companions to other Horses. A few are suitable for riding, but these are in the minority. We are often asked for "lead-rein" Ponies for young children, but because these are highly sought after and therefore "saleable", we are seldom able to help. Our Ponies are usually those who need "Special People to care for special Ponies" - if you are one of those special people, why not telephone 01550 740661 to discuss the possibility of fostering a Pony.

The following Ponies are hoping to find
Special Families
to commit to them and love them long term.

Alfie (B: 2006) is a lovely little grey Welsh pony looking for a foster home. He has a lovely temperament and is very good with people, children love him. We are looking for a foster home where he can live as a companion until he is 4 years old when he can either return to the Trust for backing or if the foster family wish to keep him, they would be prepared to have him professionally backed. Either way Alfie is such a lovely boy, he will steal your heart.

NOW REHOMED Arthur (B:1990) is a chestnut gelding about 13hh. Having been in a loving home for many years, he now seeks another as a companion pony. Arthur is prone to laminitis and has a touch of arthritis in the hocks. Though both conditions, in his case, are easily controlled he needs a home with someone who has experience of these conditions and can give him the care he needs.

Branston (B:2003) is a wall eyed bay gelding of about 13hh. Branston is actively seeking a home where he can be used as a fearless child’s pony. He is still to be fully backed although work on him progresses and we believe that with the right child he will be a good gymkhana pony.

BOOKED Chico (B:2003) is a stunning grey Welsh pony looking for a home . His future could be as a ride/drive or show pony. He has recently taken harness, the first part of his driving training. In the round pen he has been saddled, bitted and taken the dummy rider, all signs point to a successful life. Chico is a good doer who can be overweight if not monitored.

Llwyd (B:2003) is an absolute sweet heart of a Shetland, grey with the full mane and tail of the breed and about 10hh. He is a full riding pony and only recently returned to us when his child outgrew him. In true Shetland style he is an escape artist so good fencing is necessary. He is also a very good doer, easily runs to being overweight so must be closely monitored to prevent laminitis. Llwyd is used at the Trust for pony rides on open days and has endured the indignity of being dressed up for carnivals etc. He is up for almost anything and needs a home where he can be used to his full potential.

Steel (B:1982) is a complete gentleman looking for a home as a companion animal. At 15hh this arab/ connemara cross has an imposing and regal look that belies his gentle ways. He needs careful monitoring and diet to retain the weight he needs to carry for the winter. He also suffers from COPD so needs only shavings in the stable and requires rinsed hay. A real escape artist in a stable, you will need to put a catch on the bolt to stop him from wandering. Because his skin is so fine, rugs don’t agree with him and it is necessary to stable him in bad weather. He is a lady’s horse and will give you lots of love in return for the attention he needs.

Taz (B:1985) has recently returned from a loving loan home. He is about 11hh and is looking for a home as a companion pony. Taz suffers a bit from sweet itch so he should have access to a shelter. Found abandoned in a quarry several years ago, Taz was a nervous animal when we first came to the Trust but a lot of work has been done recently to build his confidence and trust in people. Taz would benefit from a home where he could have a bit of personal attention.

BOOKED Tic Tac (B: 2004) is a sweet tempered grey Welsh pony looking for a home as a riding pony. He has recently taken his first rider with no problems and his training here progresses. We feel his even tempered nature will make a good riding or lead rein pony.
